That Holiday between Halloween & Christmas

So, I probably shouldn’t be startled at this anymore, but I recently picked up the mail and found two Christmas catalogs in there. “It’s not even Halloween,” I grumbled to myself (and received a raised brow from the neighbor). Not that the kids mind (“Oh-yeah, look at that! I want that!”).

I don't carve pumpkins often, but this one came out better than I thought it would!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Christmas and Halloween as much as the next American. But, I’ll admit, the holiday I really look forward to is Thanksgiving. I mean, who doesn’t like turkey dinner, and that great sleepy feeling that swallows your entire body after third helpings, and then having leftover turkey for three weeks straight?

My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is that it’s the one holiday that focuses on being thankful for what we have, instead of longing for what we don’t have. Sure, we all have dreams for the future, but it’s nice to stop every once in a while and remember that we all have something to be glad about. And that gives me a feeling even more cozy and warm than Thanksgiving dinner.

However you celebrate this American holiday — whether you stuff yourself silly on mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce, or shout yourself hoarse over a football game, or accidentally overcook the turkey — don’t forget that holiday between Halloween and Christmas, and remember to give thanks for what you’ve got. Happy Thanksgiving!

I really hate that Thanksgiving gets shortchanged too! Apparently there is a study somewhere that gives proof that Christmas marketing starts in stores earlier and earlier every year. And someone has jokingly predicted at what year it will be Christmas in the store all year long!

And I thought it was just me being grinchy by saying Christmas starts earlier every year!
